Thai Mango with sticky rice, also known as glutinuous rice,  is a sweet Thai food.  The rice becomes sticky when cooked.  Learn how to cook it right.
  • Put 3 cups of rice in a large pot. Cover it with 2-3 inches of water above the rice.  Let it soak for 24 hours.
  • Drain the soaked rice and pour into a steamer basket
  • Boil 2-3 inches of water in the pot and set the steamer over it.  Make sre the rice doesn’t drop into the water
  • Cover and steam for 20-30 minutes.
  • Stir the rice evenly.
  • Steam for another 5 minutes.

Sticky Rice Ingredients
  • 300 gms sticky rice
  • 250ml coconut milk
  • 4-5 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2-3 pandan leave
How to add the blues in your sticky rice (glutinuous rice)
  • Boil the coconut milk, sugar and salt in the wok or pot.
  • Add purple tea leaves into the wok or pot.
  • Add 2-3 pandan leaves tied in a knot 
  • Cook the coconut for about 2-5 minutes till it boils and colour emerge into the coconut milk
  • Once cooked, add the blue coconut milk into the cooked sticky rice
  • Stir to make sure the coconut milk is evenly mixed with the sticky rice.
  • Keep for about 30 minutes before serving.

How to serve the mango sticky rice
  • You can make balls of mango sticky rice
  • Cut mango into half and slice diagonally on both sides for designs
  • Serve with the ball of mango sticky rice
Optional: Add the coconut cream onto the blue sticky rice for taste before serving

Pad Thai Ingredients
  • 100 gm dry rice noodles
  • 2-4 prawns
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon garlic smashed
  • 1-2 chives, cut 2 cms
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind sauce
  • 1 tablespoon pickled radish (chai poh)
  • ½ tablespoon chili powder
  • ½ cup tofu, sliced in small 1-2cms cubes
  • 2 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons oil
To Be Placed at The Side of Pad Thai, The Garnish Complete The Authentic Pad Thai
  • 1 lime piece for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon crushed peanuts for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon palm sugar for garnish

Preparing Pad Thai Ingredients
  • Clean the prawns by peeling of the backs but leave the meat and the base of the head.
  • Soak the rice noodles in room temperature water for about 45 minutes

How to cook Pad Thai
  • Put the oil onto the wok
  • Fry the sliced tofu, garlic and prawns in the hot oil until brown.
  • Add egg and fry till egg is dry
  • Then add everything till the noodles are cooked.
  • Garnish with bean sprouts, a slice of lime, white sugar and peanut at the side.

Ingredients for Best Tom Yum Goong
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon of fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2-5 hot chili padi, seed taken out
  • 1 stalk of lemongrasss, cut into 1 cm
  • 2 kaffir lime leaves, remove center vein, as it is bitter
  • 1 small ginger, sliced thin
  • 2 coriander roots, smashed
  • 1 stalk spring onion, cut into 2 cm3 shallots, whole with skin removed
  • 1 tomato, sliced into 4 pieces
  • 2-3 straw mushrooms, sliced into 4 pieces
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 1 tablespoon Thai Chili Paste*
  • 4-6 prawns or chicken meat (which ever you prefer)
  • 1 tablespoon coriander

The secret ingredient of Thai Chili Paste
  • 2 cups of red dried chili
  • 1 cup of shallot
  • 1 cup of garlic
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
The secret chili paste
  • Toast red dried chili, shallot and garlic till you see garlic skin well cooked or slightly brown.
  • Cut shallot and garlic into 1 cm pcs, take out the shallot skin.
  • Grind/pound all the ingredients into powder. Pound till the mixture turn into fine paste.
  • Grind/pound with kitchen pounder or use blender.
  • Prepare wok, put 5 tablespoon of oil and stir fry the paste till the oil becomes dark red.

How to cook the best Tom Yum Goong!
  • Clean the prawns by peeling of the backs but leave the base and the head.
  • Boil water on high heat.  Then add all the ingredients, except prawns and coriander.  Boil for 5 minutes.
  • Add prawns/chicken meat and cook until prawns turn pink (around 1 minute)

Betty CiCi's Peanut Cookies

Peanut Cookies CNY

It is pretty similar to my peanut cookies, but this has been in the annual cny cookies favourite Ma for many years....

And here is the recipe

500 gm fried and pounded/blended peanuts
900 gm plain flour
1 piece of butter 200-250gm and add olive oil till dough can stick but not too sticky...
A little salt

Mix well and start kneading your 7-10 gm of peanut balls...

Other than the weightage of the ingredients, the rest are similar to the previous peanut cookies post.

Peanut Cookies for Chinese New Year celebration

Time for peanut cookies for Chinese New Year celebration.  Chinese New Year is just around the corner.  There are many stalls selling CNY cookies, ranging from a few dollars to 20-30 dollars per bottle.

Among the more popular cookies for CNY are the pineapple tarts, kueh kapit and peanut cookies.  In my previous post, we have shared with you how to make nice melt in your mouth pineapple tarts.

Never underesstimate the amount of effort put in to make nice delicious peanut cookies, though it is one of the easier cookies to make, however the ingredients and preparation for baking the cookies can be tedious, when you are particular about using natural and best ingredients for your cookies.

I tried one with peanut butter, yes, that was the lazy way out.  It was not cheap too.  This time, I have decided to prepare the ingredients mostly from scratch.  Here are the recipe for peanut butter cookies.

Ingredients for Peanut Cookies


500g roasted peanuts
4 pieces of kong teng ( see picture) 
400 gm plain flour
300 gm gm sugar

200 gm of butter
a pinch of salt
1 egg, beaten for glazing

How to Prepare The Ingredients for Peanut Cookies


Heat up wok, *add 2 tablespoon of olive oil, add peanuts
*Stir fry peanuts till nice brown, some of the peanut skins will peel off , the fragrance of the peanuts will permeate once the peanuts are properly cooked
*Remove peanut skins from peanuts
*Pound or blend peanut till smooth and finely pounded/blended
*Add kong teng, pound and blend, mix kong teng with peanut
*In a clean bowl, add sugar, flour, salt, butter and the pounded peanut and kong teng, knead and mix well until properly combined
*Keep kneading for few more minutes till the mixture is properly kneaded and does not stick to fingers.  Otherwise, ok to mix with a little olive oil
*Once ready, start pinching about 7-10gm for each peanut ball/cookie
*Roll each peanut till round and press on top with round tip or mechanical pencil top cover
*Put them evenly on a tray and glaze with yellow egg yolk

*Put tray to bake for about 15 minutes or when peanut cookies turn brown

List your place on food listings.  Run online marketing campaigns for your food business.  

Develop a few appealing and engaging videos that will definitely helps you increase your engagements and increase customers attention and conversion to visit and eat at your restaurant.

Offer good customer service to your customers.  Make sure your staff are not just efficient but nice and friendly when serving your customers.  Run special promotion to keep the crowd happy to return with your interesting promotions.

Invite food bloggers who would be able to help you spread the word to their audiences and your potential customers.


Depending on your resources, you can either DIY these steps to market your restaurant or you can outsource them to companies who specialises in marketing them for you.

Best Hawker Centres In Singapore

Lets check out which are the best hawker centers in Singapore. There are many hawker centres here in the red dot city. As a local you get so many ranges of food in the list of best hawker centres in Singaore. As for tourists, where would you go for your spread local delicacies from the hawker food stalls?

Lau Pa Sat, Newton Circus, Satay Club at Gardens by the Bay are some of the more popular tourists known hawker places. And the spread of hawker centers continue with the locally loved centers like Maxwell Market, Old Changi Airport Road and some other neighbourhood market.

A few of us visited the Old Changi Airport Road hawker center, fulfiling our food adventure hunt for the best hawker centres in Singapore.

At first, we were pretty pleased with the long rows of stalls and varieties of food there. After buying and tasting the food like char koay teow, pad thai, poh piah, pie tie, fruits rojak, satay, bbq sting ray, fruit juice, sugar cane juice, we found this hawker center to be offering moderately nice spread of local food only.

Of course, we know other places that serve better quality hawker center food. The tourists whom we brought there were, however, pretty happy with the spread of food available and tasted there.

Natural drink to help reduce cholesterol level

A friend of mine was sharing with us how this concoction of natural drink helps to clear blockages in the arteries and also a good remedy for high cholesterol.

1 bowl of blended garlic
1 bowl of ginger juice
8-10 lemon juice
1 bowl of apple cider and
1 bowl of honey

Boil above ingredients for about two hours with slow flame.

Cool to room temperature and add honey to drink.  Drink this for 1-2 weeks daily to see the improvement of your cholesterol level.

Red Velvet Cake

Baking red velvet cake without the cream, made easy.  For those who love red velvet cakes and not the cream, find out the easy way to bake your red velvet at home.

It only takes about 20 mins of preparation and 30 mins of baking.

Here are the ingredients to your red velvet cake.

Dry ingredients in a bowl

240 gm self raising flour
100 gm caster sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt

Wet ingredients into another bowl

100 gm vegetable oil
120 gm milk
3 eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
2 tablespoons of red cherry colouring

Heat up oven.

Mixed the wet ingredients and dry ingredients separately.  After proper mixing, put in the dry ingredients onto the wet ingredients and mix properly.   Once batter properly mixed, put onto a oiled tray.

Bake for about 30-45 mins till ready.  Do the toothpick test to ensure that your cake is done.

Serve hot or cold . depending on your own taste buds.  Enjoy this easy to bake red velvet cake now.
